Hi and I'm new here. So I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Steve, single, a 47 year old teenager in bayside Melbourne, Australia, single. To the best of my knowledge, I have no disabilities, except this strange need for sausages and mash and beans. (Although there are the disabilities brought on by time and gravity). (Did I mention that I'm single?) I work with Young Adults With Disabilities, a job that I love. I am proud to say that I am highly qualified in absolutely nothing - but I have been a human being for an awfully long time. (Don't you all get a little pissed off with the University-trained "experts" and born-again social workers?) My best friend is a young guy with CP - pretty total - confined to a chair, no speech but a seriously lovely guy with an evil sense of humour. (Straight, sadly, but there's more to life than sex and I love him all the same). I really don't now what else to say about me - so maybe people can ask questions - I find that much easier to handle. Great heaps of love to all. Regards, Steve.

Hello Steve! It's nice to see you here ;D I'm Cass (from the mailing list), also single but I think the fact that I'm female, live the other side of the world and being 30 yrs younger will probably not help much to your situation I have M.E, I'm partially sighted, hearing impaired and I have a variety of other bits and bobs. I like to aquire new things on a rgular basis I have a lot of sympathy for your sausage, beans and mash need as mine is for peanutbutter and jam sandwiches *drools at the thought* I can't think of any questions as I think you have done a pretty good job at introducing yourself, well compared to my intro which consisted of showing off about my ability of patting my head and rubbing my tummy at the same time - My one and only party trick If it is at all possible to some shameless plugging to any of the people who you work with who are gay it would be very much appreciated. We are trying to think up ways of advertising and you could be our walking bilboard! hope to see you around the boards Cass

You live in Aus!!!!!!!!!!! Please may i come and stay with you?? ;D ;D Now you people think i'm joking dont ya.... I'm not ;D LOL!! Lovely to meet you, you sound like you are gonna fit in very well with all the insane people we have here! I'm not insane though, not in the slightest!! I'm 18, well nearly! I have CP, i seem to think its quite mild but it probably isn't, my thought on me being disabled is that I'M NOT!! Just when it suits - comes in handy I swim for Great Britain, and like it - well most of the time. It takes up a lot of my time and energy. I'm studying AVCE health and social care, but have no idea what my future holds - i'll see when it comes. Take care love Fran/Frankie/Funky - you choose

Hi and I choose "Funky" I'm a little disappointed that you're not insane - I find it makes the world so much better. Indeed, I've built a reputation for being a twisted, pickled person. I already have my best mate wanting to move in with me - but we have to speak with the lovely Lottery people first. May have trouble with the stairs at the flat. (A manual wheelchair is a girly dog on stairs). So something in a beach-front villa would be nice. I'll let you know when I become rich and infamous. I'm pleased to see that you use your disability to your advantage. My little mate, (who I shall call Mr X.), has one leg unstrapped - and likes to kick over fancy displays in shops. Ends up with all the shop "chickie-babes" making a fuss over him and it's THEM doing the apologising. Mr X. is as twisted and pickled as I am. In Australia, we have fairly comprehensive disability access laws but they tend to not be policed very well. So Mr X. and I often go out to see what trouble we can cause. It's amazing how embarrased shop-owners can get when a wheelchair gets caught up in some dangerous shelving situation. Just for your own interest - why not get out and see how many Docter Surgeries have no wheelchair access. Always fun to embarrass some dude with a bunch of letters after his name. Mr X. even managed to scratch a Doctor's BMW because it was blocking a wheelchair ramp. (I didn't help - honest). Anyway, that's my waffling on for today. ;D Take care and be well, Love, Steve.

;D That made me giggle. I'm actually currently doing a hug research project on wheelchair access to shops in cambridge. Its quite interesting - would be better if more people had bothered to fill in my questionnaire but never mind. I've also done a experiment where i put all my mates in wheelchairs and set them tasks....... lol v.funny Hope you're well Funky xxx

Dear Cas Ta much for telling me about you, and I have commenced some low-key advertising about this group. I've mentioned it to a couple of the guys who are online and they can spread the word down here in the Colonies. While we all agree that we live in an enlightened world - in theory - it's remains a silly idea to let the bosses know about my lifestyle. This is in spite of the fact that most community support programs are run and staffed by some of the nicest Smokers and dykes in the world. Silly innit?

There is no way known that I'm having THAT sort of operation. But I am so open minded that most ideas I have fall out and get lost anyway. Mr X. is unable to reply in person but has no objection to me giving a brief speak on him - subject to his approval. Mr X. is 18 - nearly 19, has CP with spastic quadriplegia giving him no controlled use of his limbs and no speech skills. He is highly intelligent and not afraid to form opinions on most subjects - communicating with facial expressions and head movements. He enjoys watching most sports, especially Aussie Rules football, (Go the Tigers), but doesn't like motor-sport. (We agree to disagree on that point - I reckon that if it doesn't have an engine - it's just exercise). He also enjoys looking at girls. (Well - he IS 18). Mr X. and I have spent many happy hours shopping, dining out, causing trouble in wheelchair-unfriendly places and leaving rude notes on cars that shouldn't park in disability areas. He knows that I love him deeply and is very comfortable with that - he also knows my rules about taking advantage of people and therefore feels quite safe. Due to the fact that Mr X. is not only my best friend, but is also technically a client, it is illegal for me to give his real name. However - he's getting a buzz out of being Mr X. which fits in with his evil plan to take over the world - which we'll keep you posted about. Everybody take care and be well Love, Steve.
