I don't consider myself to be lesbian, bi, gay or whatever. I can't help the ppl I fall in love with, so who know's I could fall in love with a bloke in the future...(doubtful but could happen!) So then what would I call myself?? I don't want to be stuck with a label on me, cus things change in life....who knows where we'll end up! I just don't want to close doors and set limits yet LOL i dont make any sense! ......shuttin up now! lov ya xxxxxxxxx

I'd pick gay-less sylables, I also don't mind dyke or queer. I also hate lesbian, probably cause the word makes me think of some straight mans view of what a lesbian is, and it just has too many connotations. Lesbian=sex, very *friendly* person, blonde, bimbo etc

I voted other, coz it depends on who I'm talking to.
My favourite is probably Gay, or Dyke, tho the first one can get ppl confused due to my name (George/Georgie) and boyish appearance, and coz most ppl still think Gay is only for men.
Dyke, now that I like, it sounds strong and proud. Queer is pretty good too, but not a lot of ppl understand it. The older ppl in my 'hood still use it in the old sense of the word. One said to me once, "ooooooh, yunno, there's some queer folk in Derbyshire <our> St., aren't there?" in complete innocence!, so I replied (doing my best to stifle a laugh), "Certainly are Mrs ---, certainly are!" (thinking of myself, and my gay neighbour)
Lesbian is my least favourite. Tho I still often use it, to prevent misunderstanding. I agree that it does have some negative connotations...e.g "lesbo action" type hotlines/vdos. But, so do all of them, I reckon.
I think a lot depends on who's mouth they're coming out (no pun intended) of. If I think that the person is meaning to be respectful, then I'll not make a stink about tem using the "wrong" word. Though if they persist, then I might quietly "correct" them. What do other GLAD members do when they feel that someone is addressing them with th wrong term?

Gorgie ... you always come up with something good to say!!! I think your right about the situation thing ... i use lesbian/gay/dyke where i feel aproprate .. i guess you have to learn to read people a little bit and work out what they will understand or deem acceptable
