Hiya Kathy, ME is called CFS too .. there are lots of names for it. The medical people like CFS and the ill people like ME .. either way they both carry a really bad stigma with them

Yeah, I hear that. Stigma kinda comes with the territory of chronic illness Kathy

Its very ture Kathy ... and sad too. But people with MS used to be told that they were hysterical and had huge phyciatric ploblems untill they finaly put money in to resurch and found out that not only was it a physical condition but that it was responcaibel for peopls deaths. I know for a fact that people with very sever ME who are untreated becasue of poor medical staff can die, although it is not a termnal condition. Having said all that about ME believed to be phycological, they will not let us give blood .. ever! even if we 'recover' just in case it can be transfered. I dont know lots about the problems with funding in to the resurch of ME but i do know its MORE common than MS and there is no funding for resurch in the UK. Persoanly i think its disgusting cinsidering the amount of sufferes. lol... should have got me started!! Sorry simon ... i seem to have stolen your post!! Jo xx

What? They won't let you give blood, but they're not willing to agree that it exists? That's the stupidist thing I've ever heard. I can understand the blood thing, cause as you say, there's probably not a lot of research on it, and why not be cautious, but to turn around and say that it's phsycological is insane. Why can't doctors and the medical establisment in general just admitt when they just don't know? Why is it that they have to have an opinion about everything even if the research isn't conclusive? This is kind of a sore spot for me cause I spent 2 years seeing different doctors and only one of them actually said that he just didn't know what was wrong and he sent me to a specialist. But the rest of them had plenty of rather inconsiderate things to say, i.e. you just need to quit worring about it, you're under too much stress, this is all in your head, and my personal fave, this is a reaction to childhood trauma. Now, I have biopsies to prove my illness, but it still annoys the hell out of me that people and doctors have a hard time acknowledging an illness unless there is physical proof. It's just so infuriating. Sorry bout the rant. Kathy
