A selection of disabled actors with “talent and potential” are to be given training and support to groom them for TV success.
Channel Four is looking for ten budding stars to apply for ‘Access bursaries’, which will allow them to attend a specially tailored course at London's acclaimed Actors’ Centre.
Each bursary includes membership and class fees at the Centre.
Actors will be able to choose from the standard courses offered at the Centre, plus a specially tailored session on casting advice.
The long-term goal of the scheme is to increase the profile of disabled people on television.
Alison Walsh, Disability Advisor for Channel Four, told Youreable that while the course may not be a guarantee of work, participants will be "given exposure to excellent tutors" and will be able to "network and receive advice from experienced actors and casting directors."
"Our overall aim is to put pressure on the directors to cast more disabled actors in TV drama," she added.
Interviews take place in October.
